The 78th annual South Dakota Amateur Basketball Tournament wrapped up Sunday evening in Presho with teams from Lennox, Mt. Vernon, and Sioux Falls claiming state titles in their respective divisions.
Lennox Plains Commerce claimed the Class "C" championship by defeating Lake Preston New Horizon Lounge 72-59. Lennox was led by tournament MVP Quincey Ihnen's 27 points. Eric Anderson added 10 points and Peyton Eich had 8 for winners, who also got 7 points apiece from Brock Rops, Doug Hansen, and Zack Anderson. Lake Preston got 21 points from Logan Peskey, and 9 points apiece from Derek Jark, Lorenzo Williams, and Kyle Krahn. Joining Ihnen on the Class "C" All-tournament team were Eich and Eric Anderson from Lennox, Williams, Jark, and Micah Hollien from Lake Preston, Kaplan Felberg and Jaxon Frankenstein from Redfield, Toby Estes from Presho, Ben Hesler from Philip, and Grant Fritz from White.
Mt. Vernon defeated Wolsey 86-65 to capture the Class "B" title, behind 17 points apiece from Deric Denning and tournament MVP Chris Punt. Bradley Dean added 11 points and Eric Hall and Skyler Bloch chipped in 10 apiece for the winners. Wolsey was led by Tim Wager's 25 points and Bennett White who added 17. Joining Punt, Denning, and Bloch on the All-tournament team were Wager and White from Wolsey, Kellen Bardon and Tyler Hohenberger from Sturgis, Jamison Kramer and Sheldon Siemensma from Watertown, Mikele Kambalo from Brookings, and Adam Herther from Hartford.
Sioux Falls Gray Holding held off Rapid City OCETI in the Class "A" championship game by the score of 102-90, behind 30 points from tournament MVP Kevin Ratzsch. Darin Peterka added 25 points for the winners, while Austin Katje hit 7 threes for 21. Rapid City was led by Layne Severyn with 31 points and Jesse Heart with 20, while Luke Wells and Joe Sazue added 13 and 11 points, respectively. Joining Ratzsch, Peterka, Katje, Severyn, and Heart on the All-tournament team were Ray Williams and Sean Ladd from Sioux Falls We Grind, Joey Mitchell and Trae Vandenberg from Huron, Adam White from Aberdeen, and Liam Duffy from Rapid City Kelly's.
The 4th annual Legends game was held Saturday afternoon with Legends-White outlasting Legends-Blue by the score of 93-82. Legends-White was led by Mr. Legend Jeremy Hand with 29 points, Wanblee Bleeker with 26, Keith Gall with 20, Jerry Lange with 10, and Lynn Frederick with 8. Legends Blue got 20 points from Jim Edmunds, 18 from Tim Trooien, 13 from Andy Kuipers, and 12 apiece from Brad Hand and Sam Charging.
